Two Wolves at War
They're Not What You've Been Told
There are two wolves at war in the heart of every human.
The wolf you feed the most is the one that eventually takes over.
These wolves are not Love and Hate, as you've probably been told... Rather, their names are Freedom and Security.
Freedom is the more dangerous of the two, on the surface.
He's reckless and wild. He takes way too many risks. Sometimes he crashes and burns, and it ain't pretty when it happens.
That's why so many people are drawn to Security.
Security is unchanging, familiar, and safe. Security promises to protect you from the unknown. Security says, in a calming voice, "Just don't take any risks, and you'll be okay."
And most people listen.
But here's the problem; whereas many tragedies can come from Freedom, all great innovation does as well.
Without Freedom, progress comes to a halt.
Without Freedom, society stagnates and withers on the vine.
Without Freedom, prosperity withers away and Security begins to cannibalize the host.
When a person lets Security overpower Freedom, they become a prisoner to their own fear.
When a society lets Security overpower Freedom, they become prisoners to whoever can best leverage that fear against them.
There is a place for the wolf named Security, but it should never be fed more than the wolf named Freedom.
Whenever it is, Freedom dies, and Security follows, shortly after.
